Registered Teacher – Individualized Learning Programs
Join HolistiCare as a Registered Teacher and provide individualized academic instruction to learners with diverse strengths, learning profiles and educational goals. Depending on the confirmed assignment, services may include curriculum-based instruction, literacy and numeracy development, academic assessment, learning-plan development, executive-function support and coordination with families and other authorized professionals.
Instruction may be delivered in approved centre, home, school, community or remote settings in Ottawa, based on learner needs, confirmed assignments, scheduling availability and the applicable engagement arrangement.
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Opportunity Status: Recruiting for current and anticipated individualized learning assignments. Availability depends on confirmed learner demand, program requirements, scheduling and teacher availability.
Engagement Options: Casual or part-time employee opportunities and independent-contractor opportunities may be available. The appropriate arrangement will depend on operational requirements and the actual nature of the working relationship.
Work Settings: Approved centre, home, school, community or remote settings, depending on the confirmed assignment.
Employee Compensation: $28–$35 per hour, based on teaching qualifications, relevant experience and assignment requirements.
Independent-Contractor Fee: $38–$45 per authorized instructional hour, based on qualifications, experience, program requirements and assignment complexity.
Professional Requirement: Applicants must hold a valid Certificate of Qualification and Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers for assignments requiring an Ontario Certified Teacher.
French-Language Capacity: Professional proficiency in French is a strong asset and may be required for designated bilingual or French-language assignments.
Employee Reporting: Program Supervisor or other designated HolistiCare leadership.
Independent-Contractor Coordination: Independent contractors coordinate agreed service requirements with HolistiCare while remaining responsible for their independent business operations and professional teaching methods.
Scheduling: Hours are assignment-based and may vary. This posting does not guarantee minimum hours, a particular schedule, ongoing assignments or future engagement.

Position Summary
HolistiCare is seeking Ontario Certified Teachers to provide individualized educational services for neurotypical and neurodiverse learners. Depending on the confirmed program or assignment, the Registered Teacher may plan and deliver instruction in literacy, numeracy, language, study skills, school readiness, curriculum-based learning or other identified educational areas.
The teacher may assess educational needs within their professional scope, develop appropriate learning goals, select instructional strategies, monitor progress and communicate with learners, parents or guardians and authorized members of the support team. Educational services must not be represented as clinical assessment, diagnosis or treatment unless the individual separately holds the applicable regulated-health-profession qualifications and is authorized to provide that service.
Employee responsibilities are assigned and supervised through HolistiCare’s operational structure. Independent contractors deliver the services described in their individual service agreements and retain control over their professional methods, subject to applicable law, Ontario College of Teachers standards, learner safety, agreed service requirements and documented outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities Applicable to Both Engagement Arrangements
- Plan and deliver individualized or small-group educational instruction appropriate to the confirmed program, assignment and learner needs.
- Develop measurable educational goals and select evidence-informed instructional strategies within the teacher’s professional scope.
- Provide instruction that may include literacy, numeracy, language, study skills, curriculum support, school readiness or other approved educational areas.
- Adapt teaching materials, activities and communication approaches to support individual learning profiles, accessibility needs and cultural or linguistic considerations.
- Monitor learner participation and educational progress using appropriate assessments, work samples, observations and progress-tracking methods.
- Prepare accurate, objective and timely educational records, progress summaries and other documentation required for the confirmed service.
- Communicate professionally with learners, parents or guardians and authorized team members while maintaining privacy and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Identify and respond appropriately to learner-safety concerns, including completing any legally or professionally required reports.
- Follow applicable legislation, Ontario College of Teachers standards, privacy requirements, consent requirements and HolistiCare safety policies that apply to the service setting.
- Work only within demonstrated competence and seek appropriate consultation or referral when a learner’s needs fall outside the teacher’s professional scope.
Casual or Part-Time Employee Arrangement
- Complete assigned duties, documentation and administrative requirements in accordance with HolistiCare policies and the terms of employment.
- Participate in scheduled employee meetings, orientation, training and performance-support activities when required.
- Use approved HolistiCare systems, materials and communication procedures for assigned services.
- Collaborate with the designated Program Supervisor and other authorized professionals regarding assigned learners and programs.
- Inform the designated supervisor promptly of scheduling concerns, safety issues, service interruptions or matters requiring organizational direction.
Independent-Contractor Arrangement
- Deliver the educational services and agreed outcomes described in each accepted service agreement or assignment.
- Determine appropriate professional teaching methods, preparation processes and service-delivery approaches, subject to applicable law, professional standards, learner safety and the agreed scope of services.
- Maintain responsibility for the contractor’s own business operations, registrations, insurance, tax obligations, invoicing, records and resources as required by the service agreement and applicable law.
- Coordinate scheduling, access, documentation and communication with HolistiCare’s designated contact without creating an employment reporting relationship.
- Accept or decline offered assignments in accordance with the applicable service agreement. No minimum number of assignments, hours, clients or revenue is guaranteed.
Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications
- Current Ontario College of Teachers membership in good standing and authorization to use the Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) designation.
- Education and qualifications appropriate to the learner age, subject area and services being provided.
- Demonstrated ability to plan instruction, establish educational goals, adapt teaching strategies and monitor learner progress.
- Knowledge of inclusive, differentiated and evidence-informed instructional practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organization, documentation and professional-collaboration skills.
- Ability to maintain learner privacy, appropriate professional boundaries and accurate educational records.
- Understanding of professional and legal responsibilities when working with children and youth, including the duty to report child-protection concerns.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada for employee opportunities, or legal ability to provide contracted services in Canada for independent-contractor opportunities.
- Ability to provide services at accepted or assigned locations and times, subject to the applicable engagement arrangement.
Preferred Qualifications and Assets
- Special Education qualifications or other relevant Additional Qualifications recognized by the Ontario College of Teachers.
- Experience supporting neurotypical and neurodiverse learners, including learners with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, giftedness or other individual learning profiles.
- Experience with literacy, numeracy, language instruction, executive-function strategies, school readiness or individualized academic programming.
- Experience developing or implementing Individual Education Plans, individualized learning plans or accommodation strategies.
- Experience working collaboratively with families, educators and regulated health professionals.
- Experience providing services in centre, home, school, community or remote-learning environments.
- Professional ability to provide services in French or another language used by the communities HolistiCare serves.
Screening and Assignment-Specific Requirements
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check or other legally permitted police record check may be required before beginning services involving children or vulnerable persons. Any request will be made at the appropriate stage of recruitment and handled in accordance with applicable Ontario law.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it, may be required for particular programs, locations or assignments.
- A valid driver’s licence, reliable transportation, site-specific orientation, health and safety training or other screening may be required only when reasonably necessary for a particular assignment.
- Continued Ontario College of Teachers good standing must be maintained throughout any engagement requiring the individual to serve as a Registered Teacher.
Additional Requirements for Independent Contractors
- Maintain appropriate professional or commercial liability insurance in the type and amount required by the service agreement.
- Maintain required business registrations, tax records, invoicing records and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board status or clearance, where applicable.
- Provide and maintain the professional resources, equipment and business records assigned to the contractor under the service agreement.
- Remain responsible for professional methods and business operations while meeting applicable legal, professional, safety, privacy and contractual requirements.
- Understand that assignments are offered according to confirmed demand and operational requirements; no minimum hours, assignments, clients or revenue are guaranteed.
